How to Find a Profitable Niche for Your Blog?

So you have decided to start a blog? You need a blog niche. In this post, I’ll teach you how to find your blog niche.

Most beginners don’t find a blogging niche and they start publishing on random topics and wonder why their blog is not making anything.

Not finding a blog niche is one of the most common blogging mistakes that beginners make.

Therefore I have written this guide to help you in finding your blog niche.

Because finding a profitable blog niche is something that you should research before starting a blog.

SOUNDS GOOD? SAVE THIS PIN PLEASE.

how to find your blog niche?

Let’s cover some basics first.

What Is A Blog Niche?

A blog niche is a common topic around which all of your blog posts will be focused.

To understand what niche means in blogging let’s consider some famous blogs.

  • Neil Patel only publishes digital marketing tips on his blog. His niche is digital marketing.
  • Make A Living Writing is a popular website run by Carol Tice where she posts freelance writing tips. Her blog niche is writing tips.

There are many examples of niche blogs out there.

For instance, a food blog will publish content related to food and recipes.

A fitness blog will mostly talk about fitness tips and closely related topics.

And so on.

Now, is this that important?

Why Do You Need A Blog Niche?

Here are some of the benefits of having a good blogging niche.

Having A Blog Niche Will Help You Stay On The Topic.

A niche for bloggers is like a boundary. It will define your blog content.

For example, a food blog will always publish food-related posts.

Search Engine Journal publishes only SEO-related tips.

Therefore, if you find a blog niche it will give your blog a topic so that you will always know that your blog content should be around your niche topics.

On the other hand, if you haven’t determined a niche for a blog then you will always wonder what to blog about.

And at the end, you publish whatever comes to your mind.

So to remove this “what should I blog about” out of the list we need to find your blog a niche.

Blog Niches Give Established Target Audience.

Writing on a specific topic would be like writing for a specific group of people who are genuinely interested in learning what you teach.

For example,

WP beginner shares WordPress tips and the bloggers who are looking to improve their WordPress performance read their blog regularly.

Similarly, my blog is focused on beginner-friendly blogging tips for bloggers who have recently started blogging.

This way, you will have a target audience profile.

You will just need to further tailor the ideal reader persona that you can also do with this guide on Target Audience.

Become An Expert On Your Blog Topic.

Publishing information on a particular topic establishes you as an expert on that topic.

Look this way, you are more likely to take health advice from a blog that only publishes health tips rather than from a blog that publishes 2 articles on lifestyle topics, 4 articles on travel, and 1 article on health.

For example, Ramit Sethi is a finance expert and has established a brand online.

When you publish blog posts around a topic and link them appropriately then Google also considers you as an expert and ranks your site.

If you publish whatever comes to your mind, Google will be doubtful and not sure where to show your site.

Grows Your Blog Domain Authority.

Okay, this might be something that I have observed.

I’ve seen my blog DA grow from 0 to 12 in 10 months for this blog because I think I have been publishing blogging tips on this blog.

However, on my book blog, I published whatever I wished and couldn’t see any DA growth.

You can check your blog DA using this free tool by Moz.

One thing I want to put is that this is my observation and I have been trying other tricks also.

Types Of Blog Content.

This one’s a bit easy.

When you know your blog niche you will not have to worry about your blog content.

For instance.

All I do is find out the most popular topics for blog posts in my niche and write it for my target audience giving my opinion.

Also, I have a blog topics list saved in Google Docs. Whenever I find a unique blog idea I would add it to my list.

If you want to learn how to plan your blog content here is a guide to content marketing for you.

And here’s a massive list of 31 popular blog post types to include in your blog content strategy.

Find The Right Products.

There is no way you will earn a commission by promoting cookware on a fitness blog.

Therefore, with a specific blog niche, you will know products that your target audience would be interested in.

This is how you do effective affiliate marketing

So you know that having a profitable blog niche will help you make money from your blog and it is one of the most important things to do before starting a blog.

I have a lot more benefits of defining a blogging niche but these are the ones that concern you.

Now the question comes, how to find the right niche for your blog?

Let’s answer it.

How To Find A Blog Niche?

To help you find the best blog niche I have created this step-by-step process and I want you to follow it.

STEP 1: Brainstorm All The Ideas You Are Interested In.

Before anything, make a big list of all those blog topics that are in your mind.

Write whatever you think would be a good option for a blog niche because we want a giant list.

If you still need ideas here’s my list of 221+ best blog niches (that I decided to share after this process but I guess it is needed here more). Also, download this 51+ list of ideas that make money.

.

You can use it to create a massive list.

Once you are satisfied with your list it is time to eliminate irrelevant ideas.

STEP 2: Select Those Best Blogging Niches You Can Stick To.

This is the most important step in how to choose a blog niche.

Because your blog niche is something that will stick with you as long as your blog is live.

So you have to pick those blog niches that you can write about for a long time. This means that your blog niche should be a topic you know about.

The best way to find niches that you can stick to is to conduct research.

You can use Buzzsumo or your favorite keyword research tool to check out if your blog niche has a lot of subtopics or not.

You can also find bloggers in that blog niche and see their blog posts.

For example, I would never start a food blog because I don’t know how to cook.

Even if I start a food blog, I would not be able to publish 10 posts.

Therefore, eliminate all those blog niches that you think are not reliable.

STEP 3: Select Popular Blog Niches From Your List.

When you have your favorite blog niches remaining on your list it is time to choose those that are profitable.

Your blog niche should be a popular topic. Something that a lot of people would be interested in learning about.

This guarantees that your blog posts get read by a lot of people.

The simple way to find out is to use the free Google Trends tool.

google trends report on seo

Enter each blog niche to see its trends throughout the year. It is also helpful but we want to check out here is the comparison tool.

Enter two blog niches and compare their trends. You will see the popularity graph.

From there you can compare different blog niches from the list and further tailor it.

STEP 4: Select Money-Making Blog Niches From Your List.

I’m sure one of your reasons to start a blog is to make money from it.

Therefore it becomes an important task to remove those items from the list that are not the blog ideas that make money.

How to do it? By checking out their various monetization methods.

Let’s take an example.

My book blog would not fall in the best money-making blog niches.

Because all I could do was add amazon affiliate links to the books I read and display ads on my blog.

But there are so many ways to make money from a blog.

You can also follow these simple steps.

  • Go to a popular affiliate network like Amazon and check out the products you can become an affiliate for.
  • Find bloggers in each blog niche and go through their sites. Find out all the ways they have monetized their blogs.
  • Read blogs of your favorite bloggers to discover more ways of monetizing a niche.

Remove those blog niches that don’t have multiple streams of income.

This step would leave you with blog niches that make the most money.

STEP 5: Niche Down Your Topics.

After following all the steps you will have a list of a few selected blog niches. These are

  • Topics you are interested in.
  • Something that you can write about for a long time.
  • Problems of a lot of people.
  • Able to help you make money.

However, your blog niche is still competitive.

Because there are already established blogs that were started a while ago and now have grown a following.

So it would be a bit difficult for you to compete with them.

To solve this issue we niche down our topic.

This means that if you want you can narrow your wide topic to one part of the topic.

For example, if your blog niche is food then a narrowed topic would be vegan food.

The list that I shared includes blog niches that are narrowed. So they are all the least competitive. But if you want you can narrow them further.

221+ Least Competitive Blog Niche Ideas

I have already shared the list above but I thought to add a link to it once again so that if you want to be sure that you are not missing anything important.

Here is my list of less competitive blog niches that I have prepared after researching for it.

If you want to learn how to start content marketing and plan a blog content strategy for your blog here are some resources.

Conclusion: How to find your blog niche?

So this is how to select a blogging niche.

I hope you have found your perfect blog niche.

A blog niche is something that is one of the most important things to be researched before starting a blog.

But most beginners ignore this step and write on randomly selected topics.

I regretfully state that I made the same mistake on my book blog. It was a book blog but I published whatever came to my mind first.

And so I never wanted you to experience the same stress.

After reading this guide on how to choose a blogging niche I’m sure you have ideas.

Therefore you should head straight to starting a WordPress blog.
